Het rassenonderzoek is voor wat betreft kwekersrecht en/of toelating en het opstellen van rasbeschrijvingen gebaseerd op UPOV-richtlijnen en/of CPVO-protocollen. Voor een groot aantal gewassen heeft Naktuinbouw kalibratieboeken ontwikkeld. Het kalibratieboek is een praktische handleiding die bij ieder plantkenmerk een geïllustreerde toelichting geeft.
